This stock certificate (No. 40262) represents 100 shares valued at $2.00 each for the Alta Silver Mining Company. It is signed by James B. Shaw who worked as the Secretary of the Treasury during Sam Houston's second term. He was integral in the Compromise of 1850.

Notable Bond Imagery

One small vignette, located between the signatures of the President and Secretary of the company, depicts 2 small Quail birds in tall grass. On the left side is the company’s insignia. In the middle is an internal revenue stamp reading, “Documentary 4 cents” with a purple stamp on top of it reading, “Cancelled Sept 15 1920.” The date “Sep 20, 1920” is stamped in the upper right and on the left, near the border, is the hole-punched word “Canceled.”
